Can we buy just a totally bare apartment and finish it ourselves?

It is not possible to provide you a bare walls / floor apartment for your interior designer to complete. This, because a ship has to comply with very stringent requirements, particularly fire and structural protection that unless your designer is also a naval or civil architect they will not be aware of. For example each apartment’s contents are subject to an analysis by Lloyd’s of their total flammability and flammable materials are strictly limited, toxic ones totally prohibited.

As the safety of the whole ship is at stake and we have to guarantee this to underwriters and two governments satisfaction (and your fellow owners), you will understand that not just anyone can carry out interior design on a commercial ship (and one reason why Don Starkey is quite unique in the ship / yacht building industry).

Similarly, if you do employ your own designer, then to carry out his work in accordance with underwriters demands will mean that our shipbuilders will have to be used.
